Why Choose Us
The Foot and Ankle Institute of San Francisco is a specialty practice devoted to state of the art conservative and reconstructive surgical techniques for all foot and ankle problems. Our Doctors’ experience has involved some of the more complex cases imaginable. And every day, these doctors have just one goal: providing state of the art care for patients like you.
Because The Foot and Ankle Institute of San Francisco is a specialty practice, every aspect of the patient experience has been designed to create the best possible outcome. From our state of the art musculoskeletal ultrasound, in office fluoroscopy, and one of a kind practice management system, the practice was designed around the question of identifying and providing the best technology and care available today.
Acute injuries, chronic symptoms or deformity correction, we provide surgical solutions for those in need. Dr. Metaxas brings a unique skill set to the table, combining a robust background in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, advanced deformity planning and correction, minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques, as well as basic Ilizarov and advanced Taylor Spatial Frame external fixation applications. All focused on the foot and ankle, all focused on you.
Dr. Metaxas collaborates with local anesthesiologists and anesthesia groups to provide more advanced regional anesthetics, which have long been associated with less post-operative pain and less nausea. Even more significantly, a lower incidence of blood clots, less blood loss, and less of an inflammatory response have also been reported. This all results in quicker recovery times. We collaborate with some of the best foot and ankle focused physical therapists in San Francisco, often the difference between a good and an excellent surgical result.
Dr. Metaxas’ research interests have involved principal investigation into the application of new surgical technologies to improve outcomes. With an emphasis on evidence-based medicine, we are committed to the development of new techniques, the advancement of research, and active participation in education of patients, established medical professionals, residents in-training, and medical students.
Perhaps the most important part of our practice is good old fashioned communication. We partner with our patients to create a comprehensive medical and surgical approach, emphasizing communication, focused on the treatment plan, technology involved, post operative recovery, therapy, and outcome.
We strive to be the type of doctor’s office that we would want to go to. We’re constantly checking to ensure that we provide the highest level of patient care available.
“Dr. Metaxas took me in for an appointment under a short notice just before the holiday when I was having severe pain. I was very pleased with his care, staff and office. I highly recommend Dr. Metaxas.”Frank B.
“I went to Dr. Metaxas for a foot problem (I won’t go into detail) that had bothered me for years. I went to several different doctors and underwent several treatments one of which was extremely painful and left me with a lot of anxiety about anyone even touching my foot. None of them cured the problem either. Dr. Metaxas was fantastic, he talked to me in his charismatic, but professional manner, and never made me feel like my problems weren’t important. He understood my anxiety and recommended a course of treatment that, while may not be the usual first treatment step, was the least stressful for me and had the best results in the least amount of time. I’m not sure I can emphasize enough how relieved I am to have my foot problem cleared up completely without any pain, or how honest, amiable and comforting Dr. Metaxas was. He was honestly one of the best physicians I have ever met with for any issue.”Liz C.
“Dr. Metaxas fixed my ankle after I broke it snowboarding. I was able to get in to see him right after I got back from Tahoe and I was in surgery that Friday. He was very thorough in explaining his approach, and my recovery went really smoothly because of the attentiveness of his staff. If I broke my other ankle, he would be the one I wanted to fix it!”Jason B..
